Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I wanted to let you know about a new book I’ve written– Claude and Medea

Book 1: The Hellburn Dogs. It’s the first in a children’s series (ages 9 and

up) and revolves around two 7th graders at a Manhattan school who, through the

influence of an eccentric substitute teacher, become clandestine activists

seeking out opportunities to right wrongs and do good in the world. For reasons

that become clear in Book 1, neither can risk getting caught, so their

adventures are all on the sly. In the first book, Claude and Medea – and a

group of friends – solve the mystery of a rash of dog thefts. I won’t tell

you more, lest I give away too much. In future books, the two and their group

will tackle more issues and do their best to make a difference.

The publisher, Lantern Books, is serializing the first book on their website,

www.lanternbooks.com. The first chapter has just been posted, and Lantern will

post a new chapter each week (the first book is 12 chapters.) At the end of

these 12 weeks, people will be able to purchase the book in hard copy if they

wish.

I hope that you’ll visit www.lanternbooks.com, click on the Claude and Medea

icon on the top right of the site and see what you think! If you like the book,

I’d be so grateful if you’d spread the word about it to any young people,

teachers, or parents, whom you think would be interested. Obviously, this is an

unusual way to “publish†a book, and its success will depend upon word of

mouth.

I hope you enjoy the book!
