raw beets are a great addition to smooties, and they turn the smoothie bright

purple, even if the smoothie is green, which mine always are, because i always

add lots of dark leafy greens to my smoothies. my basic smoothie: 1 banana,

handful of organic mesculin mix (baby greens), soymilk. i usually add 2-4

heaping Tbs. hemp hearts to it as well, especially when i'm giving it to my son

who's 18 mos. hemp hearts have omega 3 and omega 6 (and protein) which are

essential for growing kids. another good smoothie if you want it all raw (i.e.

without soy or rice milk) is 1 apple, 1 banana, handful of greens (can use

mesculin mix, spinach, kale, etc.), 1 stalk of celery + water.

you can add hemp seeds, beets, spirulina, etc. to most smooties. i find

bananas are a really good base. if you need more sweetness, grapes are perfect.

carrots can make smoothies pulpy, but you could add carrot juice.

Re: smoothies with veggies?

You can add raw cabbage to most smoothies. You can also add some

juice concentrate along with soy or rice milk and more juice, to add

more flavor and hide the veggies. The kale smoothie sounds good. I

will have to try it.

Good luck!
