I have no books on fasting but do, do it for health for myself!!

but there are many types of fasts.

Fasting is the act of willingly abstaining from some or all food and in

some cases drink, for a period of time.

When food is not eaten, the body looks for other ways to find energy,

such as drawing on glucose from the liver's stored glycogen and fatty

acids from stored fat and eventually moving on to vital protein tissues.

The body is fine relying on fatty acids but the brain and the nerves

depend on glucose. Once the glucose is significantly used up, the body

switches and begins to produce ketone bodies (acetoactate,

hydroxy-butyrate, and acetone). Even though this transformation to an

alternative form of energy has been made, some parts of the brain

exclusively need glucose and protein is still needed to produce it. If

body protein loss were to continue, death will ensue.

After approximately three days of fasting, feelings of hunger usually

become infrequent or disappear altogether.

Water fasting is a type of fasting and detox diet in which the

practitioner consumes only water. No energy is spent on digestion, other

than to heat any cold water to reach homeostasis of a uniform body

temperature. The fast is normally undergone with the intent of

detoxification for greater health. The reasoning behind this is disputed

and controversial, that less energy is expended on digestion of foods,

resulting in more energy for the rest of the body to expel " toxins " as

well as to recover and heal itself from the stresses digestion places

upon it. Some proponents claim that protein sparing minimizes muscle

loss as the body adapts to the lack of incoming protein by drawing upon

almost solely fat for energy. Even so, metabolism will slow during a

fast and physical/mental activity should be minimized for safety reasons.

fruit fasts that are great for detoxifying the body, the best fruits for

this is apples, pears, melons and grapes but only choose one type for a

fruit a day, works wonders!!!!

Juice fasting which I do similar too a fruit fast and in some ways is better

Juice fasting is a type of fasting and detox diet in which the

practitioner consumes only fruit and vegetable juices. Being only simple

sugars, these foods are digested rapidly and expending little energy.

They are normally consumed with the intent of detoxification for greater

health. The reasoning behind this is disputed and controversial, that

less energy is expended on digestion of foods, resulting in more energy

for the rest of the body to expel " toxins " as well as to recover and

heal itself from the stresses digestion places upon it.

what about doing a cleanse? I've been considering

doing one of these lately but am a bit nervous as I'm

not sure how I'll do without eating ;)
