Guest guest
I read about this story on msn, and was happy to hear the school had a vegetarian club! (which prompted the meals) I pack my 10 yr olds lunch every day, but recently we had friends in town from a lil town in west Texas. Their school doesn't have a cafeteria, so we went to my daughter's school twice for the experience. My daughter's classmates finished their lunch in 5/6 minutes and ran out to play. I have read that our school employs a " healthy start " lunch program, and that the meals here were more nutritious then others across the country. oh, boy! Since we ALWAYS pack, I've never looked at the lunch food or schedule. Well, Tuesday we had nachos and cheese (yup nacho chips and liquid cheese) with peas and carrot, um, cubes and pears. I would not consider that a healthy meal. I had planned on getting us all " chef " salads on Wednesday, but they only make 10 a day and they were gone. (their chef salad includes lettuce, carrot slivers, and some terrible shredded cheese stuff) We all got pre-made pb & j and no one took more than one bite. I have eaten pb & j made by my 4 yr old (it's her specialty) and even though I was hungry, I had to be satisfied with my choc. milk, lima beans (are they suppose to be gray?) and peaches. No wonder my daughter brings home so much of her lunch, she's trying to keep up with her classmates who can barely eat their lunches. At the recent holiday performance I brought a tofurky and trimmings for us to eat while everyone else ate turkey. Due to food rules, it had to go to the kitchen and be distributed from there. I saw our PTA VP first, he told me to find the president, " he doesn't do tofurky " The president sighed and took it. Ran into the principal, and he thought we were joking, then gave us a strange look when he realized we were " actual vegetarians " Sorry to be such a bother, guys. Think my daughter will have her work cut out for her if she decides to start a veggie group; Georgia might be ready for it, but NC isn't Jodi (owned by a 10, 4 and 3 year old) On Behalf Of mudpuddle Monday, January 09, 2006 3:53 PM High School Opens Vegetarian Lunch Line http://news./s/ap/20060109/ap_on_he_me/fit_veggie_lunch_lines I hope this link comes through ok. There was a story about veggie lunches being offered in an Atlanta high school. Hopefully this trend will continue to spread!
