Guest guest
This is the exact lette I sent to my daughter's teacher. She actually just called me to say that she wasn't aware that it was a problem. She has known since the beginning of school that Melissa is vegan, she talks about it often. The assignment was for a hypothetical family, not ours. I explained that ethically she could not choose either of the choices for anyone. I again told her that I would be glad to get her information that she could share with the class. She suggested that Melissa share some info witht he class. So, we will spend some time this weekend putting something together for her. It will be great for he to be able to share her values with her class. I only wish I could go in and watch. Carol Dear Mrs Marconi I am glad to hear that you are teaching a section on nutrition. You are probably not aware that I am on the nutrition committee in the PTA. It is a subject I have been studying for many years. I’m writing you today regarding the homework making a menu. Melissa, Julia, Lillian and I are vegetarian. In fact, Melissa and I are vegan. Melissa was somewhat offended that the only entrée choices were chicken. Her beliefs in veganism are very strong. Consequently, she felt she could not choose either. I suggested to her that she choose and entrée that we know to be healthy and nutritious, tofu stir-fry as well as a healthy snack that doesn’t include milk or eggs. I also wanted to offer to come in and talk about the option of vegetarianism with specific content geared toward nutrition. Let me know if you would like me to put something together. There are organizations that offer lesson plans for teachers on vegetarian nutrition and I would be glad to provide that as well. Thank you for understanding that Melissa cannot make choices to which she is ethically opposed. If there are any problems regarding this issue or any other please feel free to call me at 334-4489 or 205-8234 (cell) or e-mail me at cpsobczak. Our children’s education is very important to my husband and I. We will always make ourselves available. Sincerely Carol Sobczak FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. Guest guest
I am glad that you stood up and spoke for your daughter being that she is too young to completely do that on her own. Seeing a parent sharing and stating their values in a strong, yet gentle voice is an excellent example for any child. I am proud for you. ~Shelly carol sobczak <cpsobczak wrote: This is the exact lette I sent to my daughter's teacher. She actually just called me to say that she wasn't aware that it was a problem.
