Guest guest
I would like to see more information on coconut oil when you find it. I've started to hear good things about it. Right now I basically use olive oil. Thanks, Donna " The seed is in bloom, will it need and early doom or will it survive a tranquil sea, does it face an evil end, will it find a real friend, should it be called humanity. Guest guest
Donna, I have used coconut oil as a skin softener for a long time but after reading about the benifits of this oil I think I will try cooking with it. I am comparing my Spectrum brand organic coconut oil with my olive oil and I find that the olive oil has 2 grams of saturated fat per serving compared to the coconut's 12 grams. Big difference here..Fat calories are the same, but the coconut oil has no Trans fat. . both have no cholesterol...Olive oil has 10 grams of monounsaturated fat and the coconut oil has 1 gram..The directions on my bottle state that this coconut oil is best for sauteing or stir frying over medium high heat and that it has a neutral flavor for baking. I will see if I can locate some recipes using coconut oil/contact the company for additional info. Sending smiles and hugs your way Deanna , Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower wrote: > > I would like to see more information on coconut oil when you find it. I've started to hear good things about it. Guest guest
I first read about Coconut Oil through the Dr. Mercola newsletter. Not sure about him yet - he seems a little fanatical on his other views. I will agreed with him that the way the oil is processed by the company selling it is very important otherwise you'll be getting trans fat. http://www.mercola.com/2001/mar/24/coconut_oil.htm Mercola recommends Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil which to me smells and tastes like coconut (which I don't like). I recently tried Spectrum's Coconut oil which to me has no smell or flavor. Then I did some additional research: http://www.coconutoil.com/research.htm More can be found on Google... I can contest that it does have a much higher smoke point than olive oil and seems to be lighter, last longer in the pan and is nicer to cook with. As for all the great benefits - I have not experienced any as I do not consume it daily as recommended. The thing that sold me was animals response to coconut oil - not sure where the article is but a lot of pet owners had great results by feeding their pets coconut oil. Animals can't read or do research, they have to reply on instincts - if they love it there must be something beneficial. I will not say how great this stuff is because frankly I don't know. Depending on what you read, coconut oil got a bad rap so current oil manufactures could dominate the market. Then again others say it's saturated fat and no matter what that is bad for you. I did extensive research and came to the conclusion that I wanted to try it - but I would not recommend to others in case I'm wrong. I'm seeing a naturopathy doctor this weekend - maybe I can get her to comment on it.
