Guest guest
This is my sisters tamale dough recipe and it's in the Mexican recipe file. She puts cheese and a hunk of roasted jalapeno inside the tamale for me since I don't eat meat. You have to ask the group how to put them together and steam them. I only eat them, I don't cook that good to try tamales yet. She used to use lard but I got her to stop that. Paul Tamale Masa 3/4 cup vegetable shortening 6 cups masa harina 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder little less than 2 teaspoons salt water or vegetable broth in a can or the kind you make In a bowl stir the masa harina, baking powder and salt. In another bowl beat the shortening for 1 or 2 minutes to make it fluffed up. Now add a little masa mixture to the shortening and beat and then some broth and beat and then keep doing this until all the masa harina is added. Keep beating an add broth until you get a thick creamy paste. Now it will be ready to spread on corn husks. You spread 2 tablespoons.
