Guest guest
In Scotland the law only came into effect yesterday so heaven only knows how it will go. It is now illegal to smoke in any public building (except prisons) and I believe also in certain covered bus shelters. I believe that individuals will be fined £50 (about $85) for breaking the law and building proprietors £200 ($340) for allowing people to smoke. It does mean that there are many more groups of people hanging around outside buildings having a smoke, which is a bit miserable on a day like today with driving rain. Many of the smokers I have spoken to were being quite philosophical about it and hoping to use it as an aid to quitting. Guest guest
Christie and Beth, I recently spoke with a health dept. rep. and he stated to me that they seldom if ever have a problem enforcing the non-smoking laws in our city. No smoking here in any public place, even the city and county jails. A smoker must smoke in designated smoking areas outside a building at least 20 ft. from a public walkway or store entrance. This smoking ordinance has been in affect for over a year. Many other Co. cities are *smoke free* and our entire state will soon be. It is so nice to go into a restaurant and not breathe second hand smoke. Things are changing for the better.
