Guest guest Posted March 24, 2006 Report Share Posted March 24, 2006 BLACK Garbanzo Beans In a large, thick-bottomed frying pan, heat on a medium fire: 1/2 cup mustard oil 1/2 cup sliced ginger 2 sliced onions 5-8 cloves chopped garlic 3 chopped jalapenos (optional). Cook until soft. Then add: 2 pre-boiled potatoes (cut into pieces) 1 tsp. black pepper 1-2 tsp. black salt Cook for a few minutes. Then add the onion, ginger, garlic mixture to the beans in the original cooking pot. Cook over a low flame, stirring the ingredients for about 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves, chopped. (Note: extra black salt can be added to taste.) Apple Honey Shake 1 quart chilled apple cider or juice 2 cups chilled orange juice 1/4 cup honey 2 tsps. grated orange rind Combine all ingredients and shake to blend. Pour over ice in tall glasses. Points 1. ================================ Blackberry-Yogurt Smoothies 1 cup apple cider or apple juice, chilled 1 cup fat-free milk 1 8 ounce carton plain low-fat yogurt 1 banana, sliced 1/2 cup fresh blackberries 2 tablespoons honey 1/4 teasppoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg In a blender combine all ingredients. Cover and blend until smooth. Pour into tall glasses. Makes 3 serving. Calories 204, Fat 2 g, Cholesterol 6 mg, Sodium 93 mg, Protein 8 g, Carbohydrates 42 g, Fiber 3 g. Points 4. ======================================== Watermelon Strawberry Shake 1 8-oz container lemon nonfat yogurt 2 cups watermelon, cubed and seeded 1 pint fresh strawberries, cleaned and hulled 1 medium banana, peeled and sliced In a blender or food processor, process yogurt, watermelon, strawberries, and banana until smooth and frothy. Serve immediately. Makes 4 servings. ==================================== Fruit Bran Milk Shake 3 cups skim milk 1/4 cup all bran cereal 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 medium apple, sliced Freeze 2 1/2 cups of the milk in a cube tray overnight. Put the bran, cinnamon, vanilla, and fruit into a blender. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of milk. Blend for 20 seconds. Continue blending and slowly, one at a time, add two-thirds of the frozen milk cubes. Save the remaining cubes for future milk shakes. Also try replacing the apple with 1 cup fresh strawberries, 1 banana or 1 peach. Makes 1 serving. ===================================== Blues Buster Smoothie 6 ounces low-fat blueberry yogurt 1/2 cup apple juice 1/3 cup fresh or frozen blueberries 1/3 cup frozen sliced peaches 5 to 6 ice cubes (approx.) Blend all ingredients with ice (amount of ice will vary depending on desired consistency). Pour into a glass and serve chilled. Makes 1 serving. Makes 1 servings. ============================== Pinapple Pleaser 1/2 cup pineapple chunks in unsweetened juice 1 large banana, cut into quarters 1 and 1/2 cups low fat milk 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 ice cubes Drain pineapple. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve. Makes 4 servings. ================================= Pina Colada Tofu Shake 1/3 brick silken tofu 8 oz soy milk 1 frozen banana 1/4 cup pineapple (fresh or canned) 1/4 tsp coconut extract Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
