One of the nurses in my ped's office gave me this recipe once to save me a

trip to the drugstore in the middle of the night. Saved me a bunch of $$ over

the years too. It doesn't taste great because it doesn't have the flavoring in

it, but it is the same thing.

1 Quart water

1/4 tsp salt

1 Tblsp sugar

She did say it is very important not to mess with the measurements by adding

more or less of anything. Start with 1 Tbsp, if the child (or whoever) keeps

it down 15 minutes give another. Gradually increase the amount by

tablespoons as long as he/she continues to tolerate it. AmyF

AmyF,

I sent this along to family and friends. I was sure one could make

their own *Pedialyte* but wasn't sure of the correct amts. I advised

them to make this at the first sign of vomiting and diarreha, store it

in the fridge and have on hand just in case. I also gave the

instructions of 1 tablespoon as tolerated. I did reccomend that the

water be either purified/boiled water. Dehydration can happen so

quickly. I also advised that if this " Pedialyte " recipe was not used

within a weeks time it should be thrown away. After the vomiting and

diarreha has stopped I used what we called the B.R.A.T diet(lol).

Bananas(very ripe),Rice(well cooked), Applesauce and Tea(non caffeine)

Caffeine robs the body of needed moisture. I don't know how medically

sound this recovery diet is but it sure works.

Smiles and hugs coming your way

My daughters doctor gave the diet to her when she would get the flu. Although

the " T " was for toast and not tea. Make sure the toast is dry, no jelly, butter

or margarine. The object of the diet is to " solidify " things back up and be easy

on the tummy.
