Guest guest
Preparing Corn Husks For Tamales Remove the husks from ears of corn, according to number needed for tamales recipes. Reserve the largest husks and discard the others. Clean the husks thoroughly, removing any cornsilks or soil carefully. Then sterilize the husks by placing them in a large mixing bowl and pouring boiling water over them. Let them stand for ten minutes, drain, and repeat sterilization process once more before using them in recipes. Looks like you can fix your own husks. Hope this is of some use. GeGee Relax. Guest guest
Thank you for this, GeGee. All the corn for sale in the supermarket yesterday had been stripped of its husks but I shall keep this post and keep looking. Fruit and vegetables here tend to be " tidied up " before they get put on sale, so for example beetroot and celery have all their leaves cut off. Places that sell organic may be different, so I shall have to look out for corncobs in their husks when they are back in season later on in the year. Meanwhile I shall try using foil. But first of all I plan to try Zena's corn cake pudding as I have gathered together all the ingredients. Guest guest
-GeGee, Thanks for the info. I bought a bag of dried corn husks in Walmart's produce section-. Very inexpensive at less than $2 for a lg. pkg. I soaked them before using but I must admit I was a bit reluctant to buy this product from Mexico not knowing what kind of pesticides and herbicides might have been used on the corn crop. But what the heck ! Many US products have been proven to be unsafe. I will take advantage of organic corn this season and dry the husks for later use. Did eveyone hear the news yesterday that there is a *suspected* case of Mad Cow Disease in the US. ? Deanna - In , " christie_0131 " <christie0131 wrote: > > Thank you for this, GeGee.
