Guest guest
Thanks Donna.....to be honest I'm not real good at files. I will take a good look though. I have a very busy schedule. I am a Professional Pet Sitter an Dog Walker. I work from 6:30 until 10:30 from 11- 2 and then from 6 to 10. While I am going back for a cert. in Animal Care Specialist I will have to make my evening rounds after class on those nights. My husband does not cook... period. He doesn't even heat leftovers well. They always end up burnt or he puts ketchup on everything and the kids hate it! LOL... hence the plea for help. I will be making some spaghetti and/or veggie lasagna/cheese lasagna but that is it as far as my pasta limitations. Another thing my husband hates are repeat meals too close together. I know, it makes for a hard time cooking. Growing up his mother almost always made the same meals week in and week out. You could almost figure out every Sunday what you were having. It was usually limited to steak and gravy, meat loaf, fried chicken, a beef roast or chicken and dumplings. Once in a while a ham or turkey might change things up. Veggies were almost all the same. Peas or green beans, mashed potatoes or potatoes salad, mac and cheese, cole slaw, squash casserole, bread. We ate with his parents for many years until the kids got up a little older and schedules changed and so did life. But needless to say DH now hates the same things served often. I sometimes took things to add to the meal for variety. The meals were good.. real homemade stuff but it did get old. So I will check the files. Thanks again! Guest guest
Robin - there are some good thick soups and stews in the files. Will he help you out and at least ladle soup into bowls and warm? That's always a nutritious meal with a whole wheat roll. You do have a lot on your hands. Marsha
Guest guest
Thanks Marsha! Yes, he will try to serve them and they aren't helpless. They are older kids. I'm just at a loss as to what to fix so they " all " get something to eat. Soups are good! My classes start in April and run through May. Right around Easter we will have Egg Salad, deviled eggs etc. LOL! If I were better in the kitchen it would help. I told you about my husband and the way he grew up... I grew up a lot different. I grew up in almost a homestead situation. We grew everything from A to Z. My mother canned or froze all of our veggies. We raised out own meat. The only thing we did so was buy our milk, cheese, etc from the store. We usually had homemade from scratch desserts as well.. like ice cream. I had never had store bought bacon or sausage until I moved to NC. I later as an adult became veggie. My mother cooked country (including things hunted by my Dad, I know, don't gag, LOL) or German meals. Heavy on the fats. No skimmed milk or margerine there. Just lard, bacon grease or butter. Most things were fried or baked. There were always veggies but many times in sauces. So, when I tried to start cooking healthier and veggie I was at a loss. I've not gotten much better. I know what is healthy and good but trying to make it taste like anything is a challange for me. I appreciate all the help! Robin
Guest guest
*lol* No offense meant here, so please don't take it that way - but it sounds like hubby needs to learn to cook a few simple things (and reheat - does he have a timer??) You are gonna be a crazy busy woman! If hubby is so clueless in the kitchen, I think your best bet is going to the crockpot. Not sure exactly when you'd chop and assemble, but at some point (night before or early am), chop stuff, dump in the pot, set one low, and be sure to plug it in (ooh, I've forgotten that once of twice and it really sucks!). There are a few recipes in the files - be sure you are logged into your account and then go here: %2ARecipes/ and you will see tons of tried and true recipes. One book which I love for crockpot cooking is Robin Robertson's " Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker " .
