My dad called me *Bubby* for years until I protested. In his family

everyone had a nickname. It was custom. When I got married,from day

one, my father-in-law called me *Tangle foot* because I never wore

shoes. Bless his heart he never called me by my given name. I'm told

that in the familes that have this custom it is somewhat of an honor to

receive a *nickname*. My dad called my little sister *Susie* as we all

did until she graduated from high school and promptly informed us that

she would from that day on be called by her given name *Valerie*, and

that she would no longer answer to *Susie*. She has been known by this

beautiful name ever sense.
