Guest guest
After reading some of the posts about the cost of food I have decided that for 7 days I am going to save my grocery receipts and keep a daily record of money spent only on food and bottled water. I also plan to record for these 7 days my main meal. In the past when I cooked for family I made weekly planned meals and shopping lists. Money was tight and I wanted to make sure we were all getting as many vitamins and nutrients as possible. Sometimes it's an *eye-opener* to see what we spend on things. Like the capers that I bought yesterday. I looked at the price on that little bottle (I bought the organic at my local market), and put them back on the shelf. But I went back for them. LOL I will go to the file today to choose a recipe . If anyone has a favorite feel free to email me. Anyone care to join me in a *discover reality in food costs for 7 days*??? Guest guest
Ya know, when I am broke I spend less, and when I have more, like when I get the paycheck and the bills are lower, usually in fall and spring, I can afford to get more extravagant. Before I started work I was doing pasta with olive oil and garlic, with steamed cabbage etc. You can do it cheaply, or you can sure spend a lot. Seems to me it's the same with a carnivore. It's education that people need. It is such a new thing to eat healthy that people don't know how. Guest guest
Hi Deanna Spurred on by this thread I started last Sunday to keep a spreadsheet of everything I spend for the next month. A week is not a very good indicator of my spending patterns, particularly as I recently stocked up on store cupboard basics. As part of this process I realised that I buy from a number of different supermarkets and health food shops and that prices for the same items vary substantially from one shop to another. Often I don't notice the disparity in pricing because things are sold in different package sizes which bamboozles me as my mental arithmetic skills are somewhat lacking. However with the aid of a calculator I have worked out the price per kilo for a number of recent purchases and have discovered some items over 50% more expensive from certain stores which I found pretty shocking. I can see I shall need to take this info and a calculator with me the next time I go shopping. Hope you enjoy the capers.
