Greetings,

I have been a vegetarian forever. I am interested in reducing my animal product

intake and delving more into the vegan side. I have replaced my butter with a

vegan alternative (never liked margerine, so this is a huge change to me) but

I'm having a problem with the cheese factor. Most of the mainstream " cheese

alternatives " are in fact soy based, but they seem to contain milk protein. I

am asking, in your opinion, if you enjoy any particular cheese alternative that

you could recommend. My most common desires for cheese are: parmesan on tomato

sauce, pizza, slice of 'cheese' on vegan burger. Thank you, in advance, for the

help.

Blessings,

Beveg

Beveg,

I, too, was vegetarian for a very long time before deciding to go vegan about a

year ago. I still miss cheese, but I have found some substitutes taht get me by

:). I use Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet mozzarella (from my local health food

store) for pizza becuase it actually melts. For " American " slices and Parmasean

type grated topping I use use Rice Vegan (that's the actual brand name I think)

brand. I just printed out a $1 off coupon from galaxy foods. Here is the

Also, I have not tried it yet, but several vegan friends have recommended The

Uncheese Cookbook for cheesy vegan recipes made with

nutritional yeast.
