Guest guest
I developed an external thrombosed hemorrhoid recently due to holding my breath while lifting weights (Valsalva Reflex). The pain was absolutely excruciating. While constipation was not the cause of my hemorrhoid, I decided to incorporate plenty of fiber into my diet so as to prevent aggravation of my then current hemorrhoid and to ward off any possible future episodes. I now eat figs every day. They are very rich in fiber. For all of you who lift weights, exhale during the concentric part of the exercise and inhale during the eccentric cycle of lifting. I don't want anyone to go through what I went through. By the way, my hemorrhoid is finally healing (the doctor sliced it open and removed several blood clots). Hopefully it will not rethrombose. --AB Brandel D. Keep in mind that the above is advertising text. While it is presumably " technically " true, there is probably no legal definition of " calcium-rich " . If you read the small print, what you can see is that 16 medium-sized figs--a very large serving--has as much calcium as a glass of milk, and that you'd need to eat over 60 a day to get a day's worth of calcium (as recommended by the USDA) for an adult woman. They're actually a much better source of potassium than calcium. Enjoy your figs...but don't count on them for calcium.
