Vegetan / was Question for Pat/ was vegan soap (or was it soup?)

Hi PT ;=)

 

Vegetan? The new word I learned inadequately this

week. Should be used as an adjective, not noun. As in

'I am a vegetarian who follows a vegetan diet'. The

use of the word came to me via VegSource article.

For those without the energy to click in, it seems

that since vegans don't like vegetarians saying they

follow a vegan diet. This is supposed to be cuz

'vegan' implies more than just cutting out certain

substances from the lifestyle but also the *intent* of

cutting out the substances - 'Oy bet I got it royt'

;=) - so that vegetarians who say they are following a

vegan diet are implying they care for the animals when

maybe they're doing it for health reasons or other

philosophical or aesthetic reasons. (Run outta breath)

So to avoid controversy, we now have a new adjective

to put in front of 'diet' if we don't quite fit into

the 'vegan' philosophy and lifestyle yet or ever.

 

I'm not sure all vegans would think this distinction

necessary - and I'm not sure vegetarians who abstain

from eggs, dairy and honey would think so either. But

ever in the search of harmony, clarity, and dogonly

knows what else, we now have a new or newish word. It

was new to me, and since I am never one to stand in

the way of progress . . . .

 

And yes, I've already noted that it should be used as

an adjective not a noun. No doubt there'll be a new

noun for those following a vegetan diet soon too.
