After a lifetime of cheap pots, last year I cashed in my MyPoints for some gift certificates and went to a local kitchenwares store that had a good sale on expensive pots and pans. I treated myself to a set of Cuisinart that I just LOVE. They will last the rest of my life and then some. Here are things you might want to consider: 1) Lids. Are there enough lids? Are the lids interchangeable, is there a lid that fits every pot? So many sets don't have enough lids. 2) Welded handles, not ones attached with screws. Over time the screws loosen and you will always be tightening them. Very annoying... 3) Heavy steel bottoms (which you mentioned) Mine are steel with a copper layer sandwiched in between. 4) I would not recommend a non-stick coating for all of your pots. Non-stick coatings retain the odor of whatever has been cooked in them, plus they become useless as they become scratched. I own one small non-stick skillet, (not a part of the set) which I use for fried eggs. 5) Features. Are these the types/sizes of pots you will find useful? So many sets have too many skillets. My set has a very large pan (3 qt) with vegetable steamer basket, a large stockpot, one 10-inch very deep skillet/fryer, 2 quart and 1 quart saucepans. Lids fit all and are interchangeable. Hope this helps give you some things to think about. :-) cheryll
