Since most people still eat meat, vegetarian diets (especially vegan) will be one of the things that they question, or even ridicule. Although their questioning is acceptable, taking their crap is another matter. There are undoubtedly several approaches you can take to address this problem, but this is what I do. I briefly answer their questions in a very polite manner without getting " preachy " . These brief Q & A sessions typically take place 1-2 times with any particular individual. I do not get into any debates with them, as it is pointless to do so at this time. When someone continues question me, I turn up the heat. Most of the time they are genuinely interested in more information, since they have already seen how much weight I have lost, so I typically make a few book/website suggestions. I still avoid getting sucked into a debate with them. By this point some of the people begin to understand your decision to adopt a vegetarian diet/lifestyle, and in some cases it gets the wheels turning in their head. You must also understand that people rarely make drastic changes in short periods of time. It took me approximately 9 months to go from omnivore to vegan. But I digress. For those individuals that just don't know when to stop, I break out the heavy artillery. I have compiled a 2 documents; 1 single page document, which I give to them first, and then a separate document which is 5 pages long. The single page document is a brief encapsulation of a debate from another message board. It contains very descriptive and hard hitting language that paints vivid mental images, and it uses clever logic and reasoning against them and their meat eating lifestyle, backed up with a few facts. It really smacks them upside the head. Since this document may not be appropriate here, I will not post it. If you would like to see it, I could email it to you. The second document is the following webpage concerning John Robbins, heir to the Baskin Robbins fortune, printed out: http://www.geocities.com/~newliberty/robbins.htm I have even more hardcore info for those that still persist, but thankfully, that has yet to happen!
