Guest guest
I won't post this entire article because it was 4 pages long, but I will give a gist as to what it is about, for those interested. There is a movement out there to use selective breeding to develop different genetic varieties of food crops that is an organic alternative to what Monsanto is doing. In fact, one of their goals is to wipe out Monsanto's way of doing things and go farther than they are, but with the added result of helping to develop strains of crops that are utilized by the poor and giving the info away. Instead of snipping and adding genes from different species to a crop, they instead utilize the genes of their wild cousins and selectively crossbreed them back to each other, just as farmers did to create the varieties we eat today, but faster and cheaper, because this is done a lab setting. Here is the link if you want to learn more about this alternative: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.05/food.html
