Guest guest
Hi Caroline, My wife has the same problem as you and the other day, she had her first blood transfusion. We were told by a nurse at the hospital that she has to start eating foods rich in iron such as green leafy vegetables and beans. (Spinach, Collards, Lima Beans, Garbanzo Beans aka Chick Peas, ect.) Someone in another group I'm on suggested a book called " Eat To Live " by Dr. Joel Fuhrman which tells you how to get all the nutrients you need without resorting to meat eating. Also, someone gave me this link earlier to a website about vegetarian diets and protein: http://www.pcrm.org/health/Info_on_Veg_Diets/protein.html Are you on any iron pills by the way? My wife is on pills for her anemia but they weren't working the best while she has been dieting so the doctor made the dosage higher for her. Hopefully, it will work this time. If you're not on iron suppliments now, I would definitely recommend you start on some. Ask your doctor about it. I hope all this information helps and you feel better soon:) Peace and take care:) Noel Message: 1 Sat, 8 May 2004 19:56:45 -0700 (PDT) caroline winchester <dazzlingirl57 Re: Used To It I could not agree with you more. Most people don't stop to think of it and if it were put in your terms, it would give people pause to at least think about it. I am very anemic and have had four transplants. Is there anything vegan wise that would help me other than resorting to red meat? Guest guest
Thanks Noel... I will check into it...No I am not on iron pills. They did not work for me either. I have been using interferon injections to stimulate red cell growth... That does not seem to help much... In 1991 I started losing the bile ducts to my liver. My liver eventually shut down and I wound up in a coma. Had a liver transplant in June 1991. Soon after I rejected it. In June of 1992 underwent a second liver transplant. Started rejection within two weeks and in June of 1993 had a third liver transplant. That one took. But my medications shut my kidneys down and had a kidney transplant in 2000... ETC.. So I want and need to totally restructure my diet... I think it would help.. I do so appreciate all the information... My thoughts are with you and your wife.... Thankx, Caroline Noel <justice1stright73usa wrote: Hi Caroline, My wife has the same problem as you and the other day, she had her first blood transfusion.
