Guest guest
Hello to all, I am British but live in Andalucía, southern Spain. I would like to introduce myself as a new member. I feel embarrassed to say that actually I am not a " vegetarien " (well, not yet!). Then, why did I join this group? Well, because in my heart I think I really am a vegetarian, but in Spain, at least where I live, it is unheard of!!! I do not enjoy eating meat, or preparing it (especially as my profession is in medecine, I am a nurse...........a theatre sister:ie in surgery all day!). Therefore, when I come home, the last thing I wish to see/face is a piece/lump of meat!!! Both my husband and I basically prefer vegetarian food, but I know nothing about its preparaton. I love cooking and use a great variety of vegetables every day. We do not necessarily eat meat daily. But, what I am worried about is how to get enough protein into our diets if I do not serve meat. Please help me start on this new way of life (for me!)...I do enjoy cooking enormously, but am limited on ingredients. I do have access to wonderful fresh vegetbles, but not to many commercial brands of food. Kindest regards to all in this group..........Alison
Guest guest
Hola Alison, Tofu is also a good source of protein. If it's not available in Southern Spain, it is not hard to make. A good book on the subject (full of recipes too) is The Book Of Tofu; Food For Mankind by William Shurtleff & Akiko Aoyagi, published by Ballantine Books Cheerio Jim " We're all perfect, but we can still use a little improvement.
