That's correct.

FWIW, he wasn't obese, either, IMHO. I saw pictures of him that were

take a month before his death, and he looked trim and healthy. BTW, he

was _an old man_. He had lived a good long life.

I have two of Dr. Atkin's books. He made good sense in his writings.

His recipe book is full of perfectly sensible advice.

He never advised people to gorge on flesh foods. He advised people who

were already meat eaters to eat sensible portions of reletively

healthful foods - including lots of vegetable foods. He encouraged

people to replace french fries and other garbage with salads, for

example. Dr. Atkin's methods have been successfully used by huge

numbers of people to good effect, and I am sure that he saved/prolonged

many human lives.

I'm tired of people trashing Dr. Atkins. He doesn't deserve it. IMHO

the Atkins diet makes it easier for meat eaters to transition to

vegetarianism. That's what happened in my case. I did Atkin's diet for

three months, and then I decided to " go all the way " and become a

vegetarian.

Look at the way most omnivores really eat: They are already all eating

meat, of every kind, in huge quantities. That is not Atkin's fault.

That is rooted in our culture's history and tradition. But people are

also stuffing all manner of pure garbage food into their faces, and BTW,

many high-and-mighty vegetarians also enjoy stuffing themselves with

low-nutrition junk food.

Dr. Atkins encourages people to cut out the junk food. Is that really

so terrible?

Meat and salad vegetables is not what makes people fat. It's the huge

piles of greasy junk food, and sugary junk food, and starchy junk food

that is making people fat and killing people with obesity, and diseases

related to poor nutrition. Dr. Atkins proved that. For this he

deserves praise, not condemnation.

I have many dear freinds who are fat, and getting fatter. Some of them

look like they are about to explode out of their own skins. I am

terrified for their sakes. I pray every day that they try the Atkins

diet, because losing weight by such a sensible method would be one of

the healthiest and most life-affirming things that they could choose to

do.

When obesity in the USA is such a horrifying epidemic and national

shame, I think it's very wrongheaded, and just plain mean, to discourage

obese omnivores from trying Dr. Atkin's diet.

Well, you are intitled to your opinion Laura but nobody here was " Kicking "

Atkins's corpse or trashing him as you said. We were merely stating our

opinions. By the way, I think you did the right thing by going vegetarian. This

is what I have done also and I have found it to be the best weight loss plan for

me. I eat carbs in moderation only too and so far, I'm losing weight:) My wife

has also lost a ton of weight. I'm not putting anyone down for trying the Atkins

Diet but I just don't feel personally it's the best diet for everyone since it

can cause health problems. I don't recall if it was this group or another group

but someone said that a 16 year old girl died from trying the diet. I'm sure

Atkins had the best of intentions when he came up with the diet and didn't

realize the side effects of it but even the best doctors in the world can make

mistakes you know.
