Guest guest
Hi Pat, SB> Just a note: some people have been vegetarian all their lives. Some of SB> us have been vegetarian for just twenty years or so. Some are more SB> recently arrived at vegetarianism. None of us seem to think that there SB> is anything unhealthful about omitting meat from our diets ;=) Indeed, SB> most of us feel - quite apart from our concern with the welfare of SB> animals - that eating a meat-free diet is most beneficial to our health. I never said " unhealthy " . I just asked if there was anything I should be concerned with, and Sheri really did say that I should make sure to take enough Vitamin B12. Is there anything else, besides B12, that I should worry about? SB> I think you can safely put your worries behind you ;=) Welcome to the group. I shall stop worrying when I learn enough (which could take some time :-) Thank you for your welcome :-) SB> Pat SB> (Very aged but healthy vegetarian ;=)) Marko
Guest guest
When you switch to a veggie diet you probably won't have to worry about most vitamins as much, because as you eat more fruits and veggies, you'll be getting more nutrients than you were on a typical meateater's diet. B12 is the only vitamin vegetarians might not get enough of that could cause serious / immediate health problems if you are deficient in it. However, I would also recommend you consider a biotin supplement. Biotin is a b vitamin used in the production of hair and nails, and helps your body use protein and other nutrients. You can find it in lots of vegetables, but can probably use more.
