Guest guest
At least, I will grant that hunters are generally in favor of preserving nature. But I don't see how hunters, full of their macho BS, blood lust, and almost erotic attachment to guns are in any way morally superior to supermarket meateaters. Death by rifle is hardly painless. A deer who is shot often stumbles around for an hour or more before collapsing due to blood loss. My father, who hunts geese pheasants ,etc., has told me stories about how he had to wring a bird's neck because neither the bullets nor the fall killed him/her. Hunters love to claim that if they didn't hunt the animals would starve to death due to overpopulation and lack of food. Even if that were technically true, it ignores the real cause of the problem. If deer lack food it's only because humans have destroyed most of their forests. Not to mention that humans regularly kill off most of the deer's natural predators; coyotes, wolves, etc. A practice which many hunters and ranchers support without question. Animals have no chance when pitted against a shotgun or rifle. At least when a lion, tiger, or bear oh my! hunts an animal, he or she usually ends up getting the weak and sick among the prey. It's survival of the fittest. But human hunters now go against the law of the jungle. The goal of hunters is always to kill the biggest buck. How does that help the species? But, It is hunters' connections with NRA that really sicken me. The NRA would rather children continue to be killed than admit that there is no reason why any US citizen needs automatic weapons, pay a little more for their precious guns, or have to wait a little longer to buy their guns so a background check could be performed. And remember, it's not as though Michael Moore actually hunts all his meat. In " the big one " he was buying a fish sandwich at McDonald's for crying out loud. So much for his anti-corporate stance. I don't mean to single out Mike though, I've seen this type of hypocrisy all the time. My Soc Professor who is an adamant Marxist still patronizes fast food restaurants and drives a fucking SUV. This is a serious problem. All these people who claim to be against the evils of society and sincerely believe that they are, still support the corporate machines when it is convenient or pleasurable to them. , StLeoWitch@a... wrote: > I am in total agreement with this part of your post. > I have more respect for those meat eaters who actually stalk (not in tree > stands), hunt, clean and cook what they catch than for those who have outsourced > the " hard/gory " part. > Susan > > In a message dated 1/10/04 7:17:43 PM, " Sheryl " <ssarndt> > writes: > > << I would agree with this. I don't condone hunting and would never do it. I also could not be in a relationship with a hunter. I know that I mentioned that I have more respect for them than those who get their meat at the supermarket. I only give them more " respect " because they are actually able to do all the things that supermarket- purchasers swear they could not do. I do not condone the killing and/or eating of meat at all. I do, however, view hunters a little bit differently than I do supermarket buyers. Just my $.02.
