Guest guest
Just some more info about my parents. My parents raise cattle on a free-range farm, with anesthetized castration/dehorning, and a generally happy bovine life. I mean, if you're gonna raise beef, I like their way better than commercial methods. My mom raises chickens in a large (like 1/10 acre) pen. She won't keep more than about 20 hens at a time, because then they'd be too cramped. We take the eggs whenever they lay them naturally, and let them die natural deaths, as opposed to butchering. With that I really have no qualms. We also used to raise rabbits for meat, but finally decided against it, due to our inability to allow them any kind of fufilling life or even a painless death. Our two remaining rabbits are finishing their lives in an open grass-bottom pen now. My parents are rather conservative Christian, and they enjoy their meat, but they also believe in being kind to your animals. They've always been big about stewarship and not using steroids etc on our animals. It sounds weird when I say " Yeah, I'm vegetarian, and my folks raise cattle " but hopefully this will make it more evident as to why they're supportive of me in my endevour to abstain from flesh.
