This is precisely where I get hung up because I've in the past offered such counter arguments and have been invited to leave groups, and outright banned from groups. Rather than put this group through such idiocy, I say we demand a certain level of pertinence in our posts. As for sigs, I agree, they can be about anything -- my thousand-plus sigs range in content all over the map. However, when one sig is dinned into our eyes time and again, over and over, it becomes difficult to ignore. Constant irritant is what I'd call this particular sig we're discussing, and although I remember the last contretemps and had ignored it since, it eventually bugged me again to the point at which I once again commented. I regretted having done this at first, but now, seeing how others agree with my general moan of exasperation, I'm okay with having raised the issue. And you're right, Dave. If it's okay to bring it up, then it sure as hell ought to be okay to discuss, and that includes counter arguments. > the " worst form of child abuse " ; clearly this person > has never experienced true child abuse or criminal neglect. The phrasing is intended to evoke emotional response and short-circuit thinking; it's a common (and typically unfair) tactic of zealots. Guest guest
Ok, I see your point. This is a vegetarian forum after all so something that is completely out of the realm of animal rights or diet,- or at least something that affects vegetarians / animals in some way like the environment- should really be on an OT post, if at all. Now if someone wanted to post and argue the pros of eating meat, I would fully support their right to do so. And maybe we could convince them they are misinformed.
