Definition of Types 1 and 2 Diabetes

Ah, I see the problem.

 

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune health problem triggered by unknown

environmental factors, possibly viruses.

 

Type 2 diabetes is strongly heriditary and lifestyle factors such as

insufficient exercise and excess weight increase the risk of developing it.

 

They aren't defined by whether one is insulin-dependent or not, although

that is certainly a motivation for many to get with the weight-loss and

diet changes.
