Guest guest
I went ahead and bought via the www that cookbook titled 'Simply Heavenly: The monastery Vegetarian Cookbook', by Abbot George Burke. It was quite $$$, but having just skimmed through it, it looks like a wonderful book! As I try the recipes and adapt them to fit my taste, I will be sure to pass along what I discover from it. One thing I noticed right off are the beards on those monk guys! EEK! I sure would want them to wear hair nets on those babies before they fixed my food! *lol* Reminded me of a SNL skit I recently saw where Horatio Sans was a heavymetal rocker hosting a cooking class and his hair kept draping in the food. ~ feral ~ Efficiency is intelligent laziness. ~David Dunham
Guest guest
Hey Feral, Thanks for the recommendation. I'd like to throw one out there too (it being holiday season and all...). I recently purchased " Gaia's Kitchen, " written by the chef and " friends " at Schumaker College in Devonshire, UK. It's AMAZING. They also have amounts listed to make regular portions (serves 6-8) and larger " institutional " portions (serves 30-40). It's all vegetarian and the recipes are not only tasty but very well explained and outlined. No pictures of beards in it though... Maybe I'll have to draw some in *lol! , " Feral " <terebinthus> wrote: > I went ahead and bought via the www that cookbook > titled 'Simply Heavenly: The monastery Vegetarian Cookbook', > by Abbot George Burke. Guest guest
Hey Feral, I was the one that recommended the book...I promise you wont be disappointed! There isn't a bad recipe in it (OK of the ones out of the 1400 that we tried so far!). I can't even imagine the amount of work they put into it. I know the book is pricy but because I am so in love with it and can see it falling apart in the not so distant future...I may invest in the hardbound. And I agree about the monks....LOL! Guest guest
Sigghhhhh. I am one person and my dh is one person and that means meals for two ;=( What kinda cuisine - adaptations of general English/Scottish/Welsh/Irish cooking for the vegetarian - or is it a mix of ethnic veg cooking? Just wondering. Always on the look-out for something great and new! ;=) My current read is my reasonably newly purchased _The Garden of Vegan_ by Barnard and Kramer, and I shall be going out today or tomorrow to find their _How It All Vegan_. _The Garden of Vegan_ is a mix of different kinds of recipes - what I call 'Canadian' ;=) - but has some wonderful spicy things in there to please my palate. They also have a chapter on microwave cooking (aimed at the university student living in small quarters) which I haven't yet dug into. Guest guest
Ah yes, but making portions for six means yummy leftovers and lunch bags for a few days :-D The Gaia cookbook is a broad range of cuisines - nothing too " ethnic " stands out. And, for being in Britain, very little is boiled! , Sant & Brown <santbrown@l...> wrote: > Sigghhhhh.
