Guest guest Posted November 2, 2003 Report Share Posted November 2, 2003 APPLESAUCE-COCOA SQUARES (Yield: 16 cookies) 1 cup self-rising flour 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup cocoa powder 1/2 cup milk 1/4 cup applesauce 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 3/4 cups hot water Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray an 8x8-inch baking pan with non-stick vegetable spray. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. In a small bowl, combine milk, applesauce, and vanilla. Add applesauce mixture to flour mixture, stirring until blended. Spoon into prepared baking pan. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, remaining cocoa powder, and water, stirring until well blended. Pour over the batter. Bake for 40 minutes or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Cut into squares.
