Guest guest
I shared this on another board but when I bought Linda McCartney's Vegetarian Chicken Meal at Wild Oats....it had anchovies in it, which of course is fish. Obviously from what is written below if Linda was alive she wouldn't have let that happen. But it's true. Very sad to me that you have to watch for fish in a commercially prepared VEGETARIAN meal. And there are way's to fake anchovy taste too. Take care, Suzanne Love Animals, Don't eat them. Guest guest
Fish was/is a tough one for me too. I loved it always. But I gave it up because of the way it is treated and killed. Because of the dangerous mercury levels in much of it, and because of the way we as a species are over fishing the oceans causing many of the sealife and surrounding eco systems to go dangerously close to exstiction levels. As much as I enjoyed that tuna sandwich or those fish and chips, it just wasn't worth it to me to know what it was doing to the fish and to our planet. Now when I feel tempted I remember things I have read about the environmental impact. It also helps me to visit the river and to watch the fish swimming; I live in Oregon very near the Rogue River that has large salmon runs in the spring and fall. They are so alive and beautiful. Fish have even been discovered to have a culture beyond what humans have always just thought was instinctual behavior. The late Linda McCartney said in one of her cookbook forewords that she stopped calling it seafood and instead began refering to all fish and the like as seaLIFE. I do that now, too. It is a helpful reminder to me that they are all sentient life. ~ pt ~ The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. It brings me to my problem though... after moving to FL in 1197, i started to eat fish in about 1998. I had been vegetarian since '94. Does anyone have a good site or story that i can keep in mind to help me give up fish?
