If that's the case I bags we all like heavy metal, become Pagans, like

knitting and gardening, feed the birds in the garden, agree with Tony Benn's

politics, etc. I think I'll let you all dress as you like though :-)

Hi Lesley

I think animal eaters are the same sort of mix as veggies - some smoke, some don't, some drink, some don't. To be quite honest I don't think that the average person is remotely interested in what animal rights activists do. They are not interested in our message, and they have their own lives to get on with. The idea of a march is to hopefuly be reported in the media to get the message across. Have you noticed how our media never publicise the causes?

I reserve my right to dress as outrageously or normally as I choose, without being told by someone else what to do.

Jo

, so how do you think it looks to the average animal eater? They are more likely to listen to the arguments if they are coming from someone who is not blowing smoke around and who looks reasonably normal in their dress.

Hi Cathy

I think the most important thing in life is to enjoy it! You can then add

compassion and good deeds to try to help other beings enjoy their lives. If

someone else (human/animal) is suffering, a person feeling miserable doesn't

help them. We all get a little down on occasion when we think of the

horrors that occur to animals and other people, but it doesn't serve any

purpose.

I agree with you - if we are happy, well-adjusted, kind (and dare I say it

'nice' (my favourite word)) and without a superiority complex, other people

are more likely to listen to what we have to say, and try to emulate us. At

least they will not think that we are weirdo's and do their best to be

totally unlike us.

Most people who drink alcohol don't stagger around.

Jo

But you would not like to see a demo full of drunks staggering around, that would be absurd surely?

Sorry, don't know who wrote this bit...>Dairy cows have no reason to feel let down by me, I am an ethical vegan and will always promote veganism on animal rights grounds but I will not make what I believe to be false claims about giving up dairy leading to improved health and less mucus for instance, because in my experience it made no difference to my health except mentally to my conscience and peace of mind. My mucus and chest and head problems remained until I was able to live away from second hand smoke....but I used to sneeze a lot, wouldn't go out without tissues, and it disappeared when I became vegan. Obviously still sneeze occasionally but it used to be a standing joke among my friends how many times I'd sneeze. So, worked for me whereas second hand smoke doesn't bother me at all.

It started because someone criticised milk - Lesley then said that

smoking was worse (or along those lines, anyway).

Has it been an argument on another list and if

It has long been a bone of contention between Lesley and others, some

of whom are on this list.

I like to think this list is a friendly one, and

Not so much carried over - it hasn't been mentioned elsewhere for a

couple of weeks or more - more a hobby-horse of Lesley's to which I

seem unable to resist responding.
