Guest guest
I also consider yeast to be a fungus of sorts. After all, I eat mushrooms...actually I love mushrooms, they're one of my favorite foods. Also, I couldn't avoid eating yeasts and molds even if I tried, because they're everywhere. Even my compulsive housekeeping can't eradicate the nasty little creatures. BTW, is the yeast topic a big debate around here? I haven't heard it mentioned before. - Muffy - quercusrobur2002 Tuesday, July 23, 2002 7:33 PM Yeast liberation.... was Re: fraggle time..as opposed to hammer time.... , Gary Dean <country_man52> wrote:> I don't think beer and wine are vegan , are they?> i have never made beer but have made wine many times-> and yeast is used for fermentation. Here's one I posted somewhere or other earlier..."Yeast is I believe classed as a fungii, and fungii are a seperate kingdom from both the animal and plant orders.I have heard yeast classified as an 'animal' before, but this is atechnicallity based on the definition that a plant has cell walls and is able to manufacture it's own energy, wheras an animal is not.If it is an animal, it's an extremely simple one on a parr with amoebii, bacteria and virii, and on a sentience scale probably rating infinitely lower than an apple, which I expect most vegans would have no problems with eating? In fact as yeasts are airbourne and all around us all the time, when you eat an apple you are 99.9% certain to be eating yeasts on the apples surface at the sametime. You will also be constantly breathing them in, so even a breatharian would be guilty of yeast-murder :-)"To send an email to -
