Guest guest
Saturday, March 20, 1:00 PM: A free showing of the film " Food, Inc. " will be given at Hillview Branch Library, 1600 Hopkins Drive, San Jose, in the library's Community Room. Drawing on Eric Schlosser's " Fast Food Nation " and Michael Pollan's " The Omnivore's Dilemma " , this documentary (91 minutes, 2009) explores the food industry's detrimental effects on our health and environment. It spotlights the men and women who are working to reform an industry rife with monopolies, questionable interpretations of laws and subsidies, political ties, and rising rates of E. coli outbreaks. This screening is free and open to the public. No reservations are required. This is a program of Silicon Valley Reads 2010 (http://www.siliconvalleyreads.org/). This is an important film. If you haven't seen it (or even if you have!), please come and see it. Before the screening begins, volunteers from Santa Clara County Activists for Animals (SCCAA) will be standing outside the library handing out literature promoting plant-based diets.
