Guest guest
1600 people (!!) turned out for the Michael Pollan event last night. They formed a thick, long line that stretched for two blocks. Nine of us came to do some friendly, informational leafleting (Ryan, Syed, Sandy, Martin, Jeff, Natasha, lauren, Collin, and myself); that's a great turnout. We began leafleting early and completely ran out of literature by 6:40 PM. lauren arrived at 7:15 (she came straight from a speaking engagement in San Jose) bringing more literature and we proceeded to hand that out. The seating capacity of Campbell Heritage Theatre is limited to 800 people, so the event organizers had to turn away the last 800 people! That worked in our favor because we still had some flyers that we handed out to the turned-away people as they were leaving. After we finished leafleting, six of us went out to dinner at Happy Bamboo. It is possible that somebody showed up to leaflet but did not connect with us leafleters because of the massive crowds (especially if you arrived while we were without leaflets, because you would not have been able to distinguish us from the other people). My apologies if that happened to anyone. We did hand out great vegan/vegetarian literature to a large number of people, and it was a receptive crowd. A big " thank you " to all who took part in this! -- Mike ___________ Sage, Mike Wednesday, January 27, 2010 11:04 AM 'ActivistsForAnimals '; ' ' REMINDER: Michael Pollan talk is tonight. Leafleters still needed This event is widely publicized, and Michael Pollan is a famous author and advocate of healthy and sustainable food who is frequently interviewed for TV, radio, print media, and was the featured expert in the documentary " Food, Inc. " So we are expecting many people to come. It's the perfect opportunity to get the word out via informational leafleting with some wonderful vegan/vegetarian literature. Come and help us leaflet in a friendly, positive spirit, or just come and hear this eloquent, highly-regarded speaker. Or both! -- Mike ___________ Sage, Mike Monday, January 25, 2010 12:17 PM 'ActivistsForAnimals '; Cc: 'kattsndawggs' Help us leaflet Wednesday night at Michael Pollan talk Please help us leaflet Wednesday night at the Michael Pollan talk in Campbell. Nutritionism arose to deal with genuine issues - addressing chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes and many cancers - but now seems to be obscuring and perpetuating the real problems of the American diet, says Pollan.
