Guest guest
[My previous posting had the wrong room number in Boalt Hall. This shows the correct room number.] The Boalt Hall Animal Law Society presents a free screening of the documentary " Food, Inc. " Place: In room 100 in Boalt Hall on the UC Berkeley campus. Boalt Hall is on Bancroft Way, between College Avenue and Piedmont Avenue. Time: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 4 This screening is free and open to the public. Drawing on Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation and Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma, director Robert Kenner's documentary (94 minutes, 2009) explores the food industry's detrimental effects on our health and environment. Kenner spotlights the men and women who are working to reform an industry rife with monopolies, questionable interpretations of laws and subsidies, political ties and rising rates of E. coli outbreaks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food%2C_Inc%2E ========================================= " Food, Inc. " will also be shown on Friday, December 4 at 7:00 PM in Palo Alto at: World Centric, 2121 Staunton Ct, Palo Alto CA 94306, 650.739.0699x721 http://www.worldcentric.org/conscious-living/films-fall-2009 Donations are requested at World Centric to cover cost of films and speakers. Film to be followed by speaker, discussion, and socializing. The speaker on December 4 will be Matt Harnack, a Stanford student and eco-documentary film-maker, Grass Fed Films (http://grassfedfilms.org/ ). In addition to " Food, Inc. " being shown, Matt will show his own film " Fossil Fuel Free Film " (20 minutes, 2009). Many meat-eaters will be present; the discussion time will be perfect for discussion pointing to the environmental damage wrought by the meat industry (yes, even by grass-fed animals!) and vegetarianism as part of the solution. Seating capacity at World Centric is about 70 people; arrive early to ensure that you will get a seat. Please feel free to bring food/drinks to share and a cushion as there are a few metal chairs. Feel free to cross-post these announcements.
