Monday, June 29, 8:00 PM: Amy Joy Lanou, Ph.D., will introduce her new

book Building Bone Vitality: A Revolutionary Plan to Prevent Bone Loss

and Reverse Osteoporosis. This groundbreaking guide uses the latest

clinical studies and the most up-to-date medical information to help you

strengthen your bones, reduce the risk of fractures, and prevent

osteoporosis. You'll learn why there's no proof of dairy's usefulness,

despite what doctors say, and why low-acid eating and daily walking are

the most effective ways to prevent bone loss. Copies of Dr. Lanou's

book (with co-author Michael Castleman, McGraw-Hill 2009, paperback)

will be available for purchase. No reservation is needed to attend this

talk. $5-10 donation suggested for the talk.

Dr. Lanou is assistant professor of health and wellness for the

University of North Carolina-Asheville (UNCA). She currently teaches

nutrition, women's health, food politics and nutrition policy, and

understanding chronic disease at UNCA. Her current research interests

include nutrition for the prevention of chronic disease, how

self-efficacy impacts health behaviors, and nutrition and bone health.

She is also senior nutrition scientist for the Physicians Committee for

Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit

organization dedicated to promoting preventive medicine, especially

better nutrition, and higher standards in research. Dr. Lanou received

her B.S. in Nutrition Science from the University of California at Davis

and her Ph.D. in Human Nutrition from Cornell University.
