what a (fairly mediocre) software engineer can do

A while ago, having some time on my hands, I set out to write a computer

program which:

 

*  most everybody would want to use

*  people would love it

*  whose use is immediately obvious - no " learning curve "

*  no installation or configuration, just runs

*  " a substantial advance in the state of the art " , or how about " by far the

best program of its kind in the world "

*  free and safe to use for everybody, fully explained and open-source for

experts who want to find out how it works
