Guest guest
Hi veggie friends, I apologize if the connection of this event to vegetarianism is a little tenuous, but at least we are meeting beforehand at Good Karma. Also, one of the art exhibits is " Beast Figurative -- the wild of the animal is inherent in our humanity. every artistic soul is a frozen sea--the beast resides beneath the surface " [1]http://www.meetup.com/exploresf/calendar/10080079/ What: Edgy Paintings & Beautiful Abstract Chinese Fabric Art in San Jose - Free! When: April 3, 2009 8:15 PM Where: Meeting at Good Karma cafe in downtown SJ, then walking a few blocks between galleries Meetup Description: This Friday, several art galleries and the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles will be hosting the South First Friday art walk. This month, there is a can't-miss show at the quilt museum - the United States' first ever exhibit of contemporary Chinese fabric art. Some of the pieces are mesmerizing. I'm also looking forward to checking out some of the other galleries this month, as it looks like a strong crop of explorations of our shadow side. We will gather in Good Karma cafe between 8 to 8:30 pm, then we will walk down First St and begin our exploration at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art at 560 South First St. We will pop in across the street at SLG Art Boutiki & Gallery, 577 South Market St (actually a comic book publisher) and then head back up First St to the Quilt Museum, then half a block over to Space 47 on 47 William St, back to First St for Works San Jose, a stop in South First Billiards & Lounge if people can handle the noise, and finally the hipster Anno Domini. I look like my profile picture, but with a trim beard, and will be wearing a brown hoodie with a loud gold lining. I recommend parking in the garage at 2nd St and E San Carlos St. It's a block away from Anno Domini. A couple of the exhibit descriptions: It’s Not Us, It’s You. an exhibition that explores the inevitability of rejection in our lives. The show is guest curated by artist Ray Beldner and includes paintings, sculpture, video, and multi-media work from artists Anthony Discenza, Stephanie Syjuco, Michael Arcega, Kara Maria, Steve Lambert, Jonn Herschend, Dee Hibbert-Jones, Nomi Talisman, Desiree Holman, Orly Cogan, Kate Gilmore, Robert Eads and Arthur Gonzalez. Beast Figurative--the wild of the animal is inherent in our humanity. every artistic soul is a frozen sea--the beast resides beneath the surface-- highlighting the work of nine Bay Area artists including Rebecca Bauen, Christopher Elliman, John Kurtyka, David Larimore, Francesca Lovecchio, Elizabeth Parashis, Carlos Perez and Al Preciado. Cheers, Richard References 1. http://www.meetup.com/exploresf/calendar/10080079/
