Guest guest
Hi, Food Empowerment Project is conducting a 2nd training for our survey and we are looking for volunteers to help! Our goal is to get healthier food options (fruits, vegetables, dairy & meat alternatives) into Santa Clara County with our focus being on those who are the most vulnerable - communities of color and those who have very few resources. If you have ever wanted to combine your interest in promoting veganism with helping people, this is the perfect opportunity! Thanks to everyone who participated in our last survey training. We have since made adjustments to the survey and at this 2nd training we will have copies ready for people to take with them to begin conducting the survey. The work entails filling out the surveys in grocery stores, markets, etc. in low-income and high-income areas of Santa Clara County (we have all of this data). After all of the data is collected and analyzed, we will make the information public and then go back into the low-income areas to determine how they might want to receive access to healthy foods. Our goal is to work to change the fact that there is a lack of healthy food options in these areas. Food Empowerment Project is an all volunteer, vegan organization and is going to be counting on interested volunteers to come out and help us when you can. We have set up a date to do the training on Sunday, March 8 so that everyone understands what needs to be done and why we need the particular information that's on the surveys. We will also be happy to answer and address any questions or thoughts you might have. The training will take place at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library from 2pm to 3:30pm in room 255/257 (MLK, Jr. Library is located at 150 E San Fernando St, San Jose, CA). Che Green, who runs the Humane Research Council (the social marketing research company working with us), will be in attendance to help with questions regarding the survey. Please RSVP to me at lauren as soon as you can! Thank you so much for your time and consideration. I have pasted below the mission of our organization. In a nutshell, we want to empower people with their food choices to have a positive impact on animals, farm workers, the environment and their health - with a focus on those who have been historically disenfranchised. In solidarity, lauren lauren Ornelas Founder/Executive Director Food Empowerment Project P.O. Box 7071 San Jose, CA 95150 530.848.4021 www.foodispower.org www.veganmexican.com Because your food choices can change the world The Food Empowerment Project seeks to create a more just and sustainable world by recognizing the power of one's food choices. We encourage healthy food choices that reflect a more compassionate society by spotlighting the abuse of animals on farms, the depletion of natural resources, unfair working conditions for produce workers, and the unavailability of healthy foods in low-income areas. By making informed choices, we can prevent injustices against animals, people, and the environment. We also work to discourage negligent corporations from pushing unhealthy foods into low-income areas and empower people to make healthier choices by growing their own fruits and vegetables. In all of our work, the Food Empowerment Project seeks specifically to empower those with the fewest resources.
