Clara is a lifelong dancer passionate about making the natural resources

of dance available to everyone! She began practicing Biodanza in 2000

while living in Santiago, Chile, and now facilitates classes around the

Bay Area, most recently at SF's beloved Glide Church. She is also very

shiny and a huge hug fan :). Viva!

" What is Biodanza?

A fun and deep way to CELEBRATE LIFE,

through music, dance and movements,

To experience AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIPS

with yourself and others,

To recover JOY and VITALITY,

To connect with your EMOTIONS, STRENGTH,

CREATIVITY and SENSUALITY! "

My description: Biodanza uses modern biology to guide people back into

natural rhythms and authentic expression. It's New Age-y, but without

mysticism.

More concretely, Biodanza uses weekly sessions of guided dance and

expressive gesture. There is a mix of solo, partner, and group

exercises, and an alternation between expressing identity and

experiencing unity. The overall rhythm of the session is that

exhilaration builds and then flows into calm.

The specific exercises and music are chosen to support a different theme

each week. Each teacher holds occasional open classes to which beginners

are welcome, then that group will close for several weeks to build trust

and learn exercises together.

The system has been developed by an international team led for the past

45 years by a Chilean psychologist and anthropologist, Rolando Toro, and

the facilitators have completed hundreds of hours of training.

Through my participation, I have gained confidence in things like

reaching out to people with sensitivity; using nonverbal communication

and touch to play, comfort, support, etc.; dancing with musicality,

creativity, and indulgence. I have become more aware of the impact of

posture, movement, music, etc. on my mood and energy.

Cheers,

Richard
