Are you curious about veganism and want to learn more?

Are you new to veganism and want to join a community of like-minded people?

Are you a long time vegan and want to get more involved?

Happy new year! For our first meetup of 2009, we are offering a talk titled, " A

New Look at Veganism, " where we will share some refreshing new ideas about

veganism drawn from our years of activist experience, followed by a group

discussion. Whether you are thinking about veganism, a new vegan, or a long-time

vegan, this thought-provoking talk has something for you! Family and friends,

vegan and non-vegan, are invited and welcome.

We will share a vegan potluck dinner together on Sunday, January 25th at 5:30 pm

and the the talk and discussion will begin at 6:30 pm. To try to reach our

friends who have not been able to attend the Saturday meetups, we will be

meeting this time on Sunday. Come join us!

We strongly believe veganism should be accessible to all. African Americans,

Latinas/Latinos, Native Americans, Asians, Asian Americans -- all those who make

up our vibrant community are invited and welcome to all events.

For full details, see our web page at

http://www.meetup.com/vegans/calendar/9453724/

If you would like to be informed of all our events, we suggest you join the

meetup group, located at:

What people have been saying about the meetings:

* " This is the best meetup group ever! If you are vegan or vegetarian or

remotely interested in being veg*n, you should be here. It's a group of people

who are totally friendly, interesting, and fun to talk to. ... I was a little

hesitant to attend this meetup at first, because I can be kind of shy, but I am

really glad I did. It's a totally supportive atmosphere where you can discuss

and explore what being a veg*n means to you. The people are great!! It's a

perfect place to find a community of like-minded people. Miranda and Victor are

awesome hosts and make everyone feel really welcome. "

* " Great way to share ideas and ways to talk to others about the benefits of

being vegan, while meeting new people over some wonderful food. I plan on

attending this every month. "

* " Good food. Good people. Good discussion. " We had a lot of fun playing the

improv games with you all all last month. Thank you for your engagement and

participation and a special thank you, Alex, for leading us through the games.

We look forward to seeing you on the 25th!

When posting Oakland events to the South Bay Veggies list, can you please

include " Oakland " in the email subject line?

Some of us do not necessarily consider Oakland to be part of the South Bay.

Actually it would be nice if all event posting would include the general

location in the subject line.

Thank you. :-)
