Guest guest
Ditto. Colleen has offered classes on this side of the bay at least once, at the Peninsula Humane Soc. in San Mateo. I attended that one. Maybe you can get together a group of people and a location so that she can offer another class in the south bay? Also, I know that vegan cooking teachers live here in the south bay. They don't have as high a profile as Colleen, and don't offer nearly as many classes. Maybe some of them can be persuaded to offer some more classes? Or at least to post here the ones they do offer? The Peninsula Humane Soc. peninsulahumanesociety.org offered a class on Gourmet Raw Desserts last month (I couldn't make it!) for only $5. Get on their mailing list for other events, or write to them and encourage them to do more. I have personally attended her book signing and will one day attend one of her classes even though I don't live in the East Bay. Yes, the South Bay does need help but there are those of us in the South Bay who appreciate knowing what else is out there in the greater Bay Area and don't mind going the extra mile if a South Bay resource doesn't exist. I know people are vegetarian for lots of reasons, but it seems sort of silly to ask people to drive 40+ miles or take 2+ hours of transit to an East Bay event when they could save gas and help build a vegetarian community at home in the South Bay. I apologize if I sound harsh, and I definitely don't mean to be personally insulting - I have the same concern with other posts for SF/East Bay events on other South Bay lists. I just feel like the South Bay needs a lot of help building a real vegetarian community here, not elsewhere.
