Guest guest
come join my friends and I for a veggie cooking class in Sunnyvale this Wed Dec 3.... I do not know what's on the menu,,, I'm sure most of it is vegan or can be made vegan details below we'll be there for sure since we already paid. Pls say hi to me, if you're going to be cooking with us.... === Here’s what’s coming up at Frugal Foodies in December. Please know that you must pre-register for all nights at Frugal Foodies, and may do so by emailing info. Cost is still $8, and you can find out all the other info at www.frugalfoodies.org. Tuesday, December 2nd—It’s Cuisines of the World night and we’re going to finish off this 2 year round-the-world journey with a flourish. In December, we’ll cook food from countries starting with the letters V, W, X, Y, and Z. OK, so perhaps not as impressive as if we were going to do A through E, but it still leaves us with seven countries to choose from, though perhaps only six if we exclude Vatican City, never known for its cuisine besides bites of the baby Jesus. So please come out on this last night of our culinary tour du monde, as we usher this theme out and prepare for something new in January. Wednesday, December 3rd—We’ll be doing a special night of Frugal Foodies in the South Bay, this time hosted by Lachmin Singh, for a night of Indian cooking in Sunnyvale. In Lachmin’s words, the ‘menu will likely be 1-2 entrees, a side dish, appetizer, and a dessert. Nothing big and fancy, but fun and delicious nonetheless.’ Just to reiterate, this night will NOT be at Laurel and Dan’s, as the first Wednesday normally is, but instead in Sunnyvale, and yummy Indian food will be prepared. Tuesday, December 9th—December will also mark the last month of the Cooking the Books theme night in Berkeley. We’ve discovered some really wonderful recipes in some really good cookbooks over the past two years, and it’s time to do something new. We’ll finish it off with The Findhorn Family Cook Book, by Kay Lynne Sherman. This cookbook celebrates the Findhorn Community in Scotland, and vegetarian recipes that they’ve collected from around the world. Looks like a perfect comfort food collection for a cold fall-winter night at Frugal Foodies. Wednesday, December 10th—December 10th is Human Rights Day, and this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. One of the rights recognized in the Declaration is the right to adequate food (Article 25). However, people in many parts of the world do not have this basic need met. As we sample the cuisine of one of the countries that has been in the news recently for a food-related crisis--Haiti--we will have special appreciation for our own ability to share and celebrate food among friends, new and old. Jessica, Karie, and Patti will host this evening at Patti's house near downtown San Jose. All recipes will be gluten-free. Tuesday, December 16th—Vegan Alert! Vegan Alert! As the third Tuesday of the month, it’s our Guest Chef Night at Frugal Foodies and in December we’ll have back Phil Gelb, vegan chef and musician extraordinaire. I remember an amazing tempeh dish that Phil had us make two years ago. It was the perfect winter dish, and I hope that we’ll have something similar this time around. This night will also be a benefit night for the San Lorenzo High School Drama Department as they prepare for their spring performances. So please join us for this special night, and check out www.frugalfoodies.org/benefit before signing up, so that you can learn all about how our benefit nights work at Frugal Foodies. Wednesday, December 17th— Join hosts Daniel, Laurel, Eric and Melinda for a crantastic night at Frugal Foodies featuring the season's super fruit, cranberries. This night will highlight all types of recipes that use this beautifully nutritious, antioxidant-rich berry. So please come out, cook with us, and discover a new recipe to add to your holiday repertoire! Tuesday, December 23rd—I screwed up in November by featuring apples in all the dishes as opposed to oranges, which was supposed to be the Special Guest Ingredient. So we’ll make it right in December and all of the dishes will feature oranges in them. Wednesday, December 24th—closed for the holidays! Tuesday, December 30th—it’s a fifth Tuesday and we’re going to do a housecleaning special. The end of the year is a big housecleaning time for me, and I’d like to dedicate a Frugal Foodies to this idea. So this Frugal Foodies will be dedicated to making dishes out of the abundance that remains from the year. So if someone has given me a bag of persimmons, we’ll do something with that, if there’s lots of cheese, we’ll cook that up, and if we have rice and beans, we’ll integrate all of that. I hope that it will inspire cooking creativity, as I pride myself on making some really amazing refrigerator surprise dishes, and this night could be all about that. Wednesday, December 31st—closed for the holidays! And lastly, if you’d like to be removed from this email list, simply let me know in a reply email, and we’ll happily deactivate your email for Frugal Foodies mailings. Happy New Year!
