Guest guest
Michael, thanks for the info about Alive! Looks good! It's all interesting timing that you posted about that now, because I just got online to post about a new SF vegetarian restaurant *I* just discovered yesterday. It's in the mission, at 762 Valencia Street, not far away at all from the Mission Herbivore location (which, by the way, was completely mobbed yesterday - next time I'll have to remember to make reservations, but it was great to be reminded how hugely popular it is!) CHA-YA is vegan Japanese cuisine, and I understand it has another location in Berkeley as well, but I hadn't heard of either until yesterday. In fact, I'd never eaten at a vegetarian Japanese place before. By the way, it's only open for dinner and is cash-only. Entrees average around $8, and are not only yummy and chock full of fresh vegetables, but boast exquisite presentation. I almost felt my Soba Salad was too pretty too eat! For dessert, we had Oshiruko at $4.25 (warm bowl of sweetened azuki beans and mochi rice cakes). Really good stuff, and a nice alternative to chocolate. Also, the servers were very friendly and efficient. We didn't try any sushi, but they've got plenty. I haven't found a Web site for CHA-YA, but the tel number is 415-252-7825.
