Guest guest
Hi, Santa Cruz County animal control has 200 hens that haven't been fed for a few days, so they are confiscating them. They are still on the property, but they would like to find homes for them ASAP as they are not protected. If you can take some hens, please call animal control right away: http://www.scanimalservices.us.com They said they appear to be standard breeds, colored orange with light orange/white on the body, all white, or all black. (Sounds to me like Gold Sex Link, Leghorn, and Black Australorp, perhaps). On the same property were confiscated 200 gamebirds, which have been euthanized. These birds were not with the hens. If you adopt some hens, I'd recommend quarantine away from other birds for a few weeks and a fecal test. If a few people get a fecal test, all the hens do not need to be tested. If you're new to chickens, there's some good info here: http://chicken.meetup.com/3/boards/ Thanks, Cheryl
