Purissima Creek Hike after Vipassana Buddhist gathering: this Sunday, Sept. 11th

Christine and I are organizing a hike this Sunday, Sept. 11th, from the

Purissima

Creek side of Half Moon Bay. We will meet at 12:00 at the IMC (Insight

Meditation

Center), but I highly recommend coming to the IMC for some of the

earlier activities (dharma talk from 10:00 to 10:45, meditation earlier,

socializing 11:00 to noon; see below for the full list of possibilities).

 

This is an IMC (Insight Meditation Center) dharma friends, so it will also

be attended by those in the IMC sangha, not all of whom are vegetarian.

 

Details of the hike, the earlier activities Sunday at the IMC, and directions

Dharma Friends:

 

There will be a Dharma Friends' hike this Sunday (Sept. 11th)

at Purissima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve, hiking from

the Half Moon Bay side. We will start meeting at noon at the IMC

front door to prepare to leave in car pools by 12:15. Plan on having

lunch before we leave on the hike, and bring water and a snack

to have at the hike's midpoint.

 

Due to the tea and the Second Sunday Singles Brunch, the time at

which we will be departing the IMC for the hike has changed from that

listed in the IMC newsletter (from 11:00 to 12:15) to allow those who

wish also to participate in the tea or the brunch to do so.

 

Some of the hikers will be going to a (yet to be determined) beach

in the area after the hike. We will arrange car pools to accommodate

both those who wish to return immediately after the hike (between

4:00 and 5:00) and those who wish to gather afterwards at the

beach.

 

Below is additional information about the hike. If you plan to

meet us at the trail head instead of at the IMC, please let a

group leader (see below) know in advance, so that we can gather

the whole group before leaving on the hike.

Here is info about the hike:

Purissima Creek Trail in Purissima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve.

Take Highway One south of Half Moon Bay for about 1 mile. Turn left

(east) on Higgins Purissima Road. Continue for 4.4 miles to the small,

unmarked parking lot at the sharp bend in the road.

This Sunday, there after the talk, there will be a choice of

tea and socializing at the IMC until the hikers start to gather

at noon, or the Second Sunday Singles Brunch, which will

take place at Joy Meadow Restaurant, walking distance from

the IMC at Brewster and El Camino in Redwood City. A car

pool will leave for the hike directly from the restaurant

 

Joy Meadow is not completely vegetarian, and there will

be a few who will have meat there. But it is a very

vegetarian-friendly restaurant, and the Buddhist flavor of this

IMC group will likely lean toward a lot of the attendees choosing

not to eat meat (whether they are vegetarians or not).

 

 

How to get to the IMC from all ddirections

From 101: (from the North - San Francisco)

* Take Whipple Road exit.

 

 

It exits on Veteran. Make the first right onto Whipple. Go west. Turn left

on El Camino Real (south). Make the first right onto Hopkins Avenue. Go 2

blocks. IMC is located at the corner of Birch and Hopkins.

From 101: (from the South - Palo Alto/San Jose)

* Take Whipple Road exit.

* Go west. Turn left on El Camino Real (south).

* Make the first right onto Hopkins Avenue. Go 2 blocks.

* IMC is located at the corner of Birch and Hopkins.

From 280: (from the South - Palo Alto/San Jose)

* Take Farm Hill Road exit and go east. Farm Hill Road becomes

Jefferson Avenue.

About 3 miles. Turn left on El Camino Real (north). Turn left on Hopkins

Avenue. Go 2 blocks. IMC is located at the corner of Birch and Hopkins.

From 280: (from the North - San Francisco)

* Take the Edgewood Road exit - go left on Edgewood Road - 2.3 miles.

* Turn right on Alameda de las Pulgas - 0.2 miles.

* Turn left on Hopkins Ave.- 0.9 miles.

* IMC is located at the corner of Birch and Hopkins on your right.
