Hi, everyone! I'm moving to Seattle to attend graduate

school for two years at the University of Washington in Russian and

Central Asian Studies.

It's been great being involved with the South Bay Vegetarian

Society over the last 3.5 years; I've met a lot of great people and

had a lot of good times. I'm confident that through the leadership

of the Planning Committee and your participation, the group will

continue to provide fun and educational events for vegetarians and

our friends in the South Bay.

Y'all are invited to my going-away dinner, which will be held

on Thursday, September 15th, at 5:30 PM at Garden Fresh Vegetarian

Restaurant in Mountain View, followed by my aunt's book reading at

7:30 PM at Books Inc bookstore, also in Mountain View. At the

dinner, I'll have pictures on hand from my and Laurie Tanenbaum's

recent trip to China to share with y'all.

Garden Fresh is located at 1245 West El Camino Real in

Mountain View, at the corner of Shoreline Boulevard and El Camino

Real; their phone number is (650) 961-7795. The restaurant is two

doors down from the Baskin-Robbins ice cream store.

As Garden Fresh is a small restaurant with limited seating

capacity, we will enjoy their fixed-menu party platters, consisting

of taro spring rolls, moo shu basic rolls, steamed seasoned vegetable

dumplings, marinated vegetarian duck, vegetarian sushi, and scallion

pancakes. The cost will be $8.50 per person, which includes tax and

tip but not drinks. Please arrive promptly at 5:30 PM, as we will

need to leave the restaurant by 6:30 PM.

If you want to join us just for the book reading, meet us at

7:20 PM at Books Inc, located at 301 Castro Street in downtown

Mountain View, at the corner of Castro and West Dana streets; their

phone number is (650) 428-1234. My aunt Gloria Kurian Broder's new

book is called " Their Magician and Other Stories " , and it's quite

good, with all of the stories having a dreamlike quality to them. A

review of the book is accessible at the following URL:

Please RSVP to me at shoshana or (650) 948-4883

by Tuesday, September 13th so that I can let the restaurant know how

many of us will be there. When you RSVP, please let me know if you

will be joining us for the dinner, the book reading or both. I hope

that y'all can make it to one or both portions of this fun event!

Take care,

Shoshana Billik

SBVS Planning Committee Member
