Thanks,

Santa Cruz Letter Writing Party, Sun 3-5PM

It's only a few days away, and I'm really looking

forward to the soy ice cream shakes they have. There

are always super delicious specials on the menu, too.

I'll be at the big round table behind the left-side

partition with a notebook full of issues to write on.

Please RSVP and I'll save you a seat.

Hope to see you there!

Matthew

....

What : Santa Cruz Letter Writing Party

Why : Write to corporations and politicians about

animal protection issues and legislation.

Where : Dharma's Natural Foods in Capitola

(big round table behind the left-side partition)

When : Sunday, August 7, 2005, 3-5 pm

Join Bay Area Vegetarians as we write letters to the

editor, letters to state, county, and federal

legislators and officials encouraging compassion to

animals, etc. We will be a voice for the voiceless

with our personal, handwritten, high-impact letters.

This is a monthly event usually on the 1st Sunday.

New activists are encouraged to attend!

It's helpful if you can also bring:

-pen and paper

-envelopes

-name of your State & .Ffederal legislators (click

here

-veg or animal rights topics to write on, or use the

ones we provide.

We will be meeting at Dharma's Natural Foods in

Capitola. Taken from their website,

http://www.dharmaland.com/ :

" Founded in 1981 as a fast food vegetarian restaurant,

Dharma's Natural Foods is completely vegetarian, with

95% of our items primarily vegan.

Dharma's includes as many items that are organic as

possible, such as flours, veggies, some fruits, wines,

beers, as well as our lentils, beans, tofus & pastas.

We use extra virgin olive oil and cold pressed oils.

And of course, we use no preservatives! "

Please RSVP and we'll save you a seat (at the big

round table on the left platform.) Hope to see you

there!

Thanks!

Matthew

Note, if you can't make this LWP, check the event

calendar for other LWPs in Berkeley, Palo Alto, and SF

FINAL REMINDER: 2nd Annual SBVS Rafting Trip on Sunday, 8/14/2005

Just a handful of places left...send your electronic payment today to

assure your spot for the rafting trip! -PB-

----

SBVS is pleased to announce its 2nd Annual Summer Rafting Trip on

SUNDAY, AUGUST 14TH, 2005, from approximately 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM.

If you are interested in attending this fun-filled day of beautiful

scenery and refreshing water relief from the heat, then send your

PAYPAL (electronic) payment for $25.00 ASAP to

beckerhead

NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, AUGUST 7, 2005

--

Identical to last year's trip, we will be rafting (4-6 hours) on

the mellow Stanislaus River—which consists primarily of gently

flowing water interspersed with a couple of wading areas and a few

easy-to-medium rapids (class 1-2). Needless-to-say, you most likely

will get wet on this trip(!)—which should be quite refreshing--

considering temperatures are forecast to be in the upper 90s by mid-

August!

The cost of the rafting trip (including shuttle bus back to

automobiles) is still only $25/person for the day! Due to the

seasonal nature of the event, SBVS must limit this trip to 21

persons. SBVS will accept paid reservations on a first come/first

serve basis. A confirmation e-mail or phone call will be sent/made

to verify receipt of payment for the trip.

====================================================================

IMPORTANT: Please make sure to provide BOTH a phone number AND an e-

mail address where you can be reached for when I send a follow-up e-

mail regarding the specific details of the trip (such as where to

meet, what to bring, carpooling information, etc.) a few days before

the day of the trip.

Also, indicate the names of all persons for whom you are making a

reservation when you send your payment. Due to the seasonal nature

of this event, it will not be possible to issue refunds unless the

rafting company cancels the trip due to weather-related or safety

concerns.

Here is some information about the Stanislaus River provided by the

rafting company:

EXPERIENCE THE STANISLAUS RIVER

" One of the clearest of California's Western Rivers, the

Stanislaus originates high in the Sierra Nevada. As it flows west

through the Gold Country, it passes through the rustic town of

Knights Ferry…(which) is filled with many historical buildings

and legends, and is the site of the longest covered bridge west of

the Mississippi…It is just 30 minutes from Modesto, one hour from

Stockton or Tracy, and less than 2 hours from San Jose and the San

Francisco Bay Area. The Stanislaus is a beautiful, free flowing river

at Knights Ferry. A paddle down the Stanislaus is a great way to step

out of the routine of daily life and experience a simple pleasure.

The " Stan " offers something for everyone. Whether you're a

beginner or veteran river enthusiast, the Stanislaus will not

disappoint. "

RIVER FACTS

· Minimum Age: 5 Years

· Difficulty: Class II - Beginner

· Experience Required: None

· Season: May-October

· Weather: Summer; Hot Spring & Fall; Mild

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail

message at phibec95117.

I'm looking forward to another great trip with the first 20 other

individuals who are quick to respond!

Have an enjoyable rest of your Summer...and I'll see some of you on

August 14th, 2005! :<)

-Bay Leaf Cafe Dinner, 8/9 at 7:00pm-

Please join us at Bay Leaf Cafe on Tuesday, August 9th at 7:00pm for

the monthly Bay Area Vegetarians dinner in the south bay. Located in

downtown Palo Alto, Bay Leaf Cafe offers delicious soups, sandwiches

and ice cream. The Bay Leaf Cafe is vegan owned and operated. ALL

DISHES ARE VEGAN and organic when possible. On top of all that the

Internet is even available through their wireless access point

(pretty hip eh?).

The Bay Leaf has been one of my favorite restaurants since it opened.

Their Artichoke quesadilla is so cheesy it's hard to believe it's

vegan!

Regulars and newcomers are welcome, but it is a rather small

restaurant and we have almost been reaching a critical mass at the

last few dinners. RSVP to guarantee a spot! :D
