Guest guest
If that sponge is not wet, you can microwave it forever with little result. The microwave frequency range " cooks " things by disturbing water; the water must be present for this to occur. Of course, all this presumes you are willing to be anywhere near a microwave oven. I am not. Regarding the PLU codes, much to the chagrin of many, the 4-digit codes do not guarantee the absence of GE foods, only that no GE content rises to the level of present federal labeling requirements. If you want GE-free food, either buy certified organic or know your farmers personally. That's the only reasonably safe way. Best to all, Elchanan nancy orr [be_veg] Tuesday, March 29, 2005 9:17 AM ; [southBayVeggies] GE or not? here is some info. i recently came upon and thought others might find it useful too. PLU codes for produce: 5 digits starting with 8 indicates the produce was genitically modified. 5 digits starting with 9 indicates it was grown organically. 4 digits indicates it was grown conventionally (neither organic nor GM). Nuke Those Germs: don't throw that sponge away-nuke it for 30 seconds to disinfect it! if it is wet, nuke it for 1 minute. nancy be the change...
